Beyond Catalonia is a documentary series that attempts to explain some of the main independence movements in Europe, and some of the lesser-known ones as well. This episode focuses on Latgale in eastern Latvia. The region is famous for its own language and ancient traditions, including pottery. Latgale is one of the last places in the world where pottery is still made entirely by hand. A significant part of the population identifies as Russian, which puts a lot of pressure on the region and makes its dreams of autonomy almost impossible.
