CITY OF REFUGEES (2017)
Documentary portraying the persecution of Myanmar’s Muslim minority, known as ‘the Rohingya crisis’. Stripped of their citizenship in 1982, the Rohingya have faced systematic oppression, characterised by brutal military crackdowns, forced displacement and widespread human rights abuses. In 2017, the situation reached a critical point, unleashing a humanitarian crisis. Fleeing violence and persecution in Myanmar, more than 700,000 Rohingya arrived on the shores of Bangladesh to settle in makeshift temporary camps, which for most of them have become a home for the rest of their lives. One of these camps, the largest on earth by population, with almost 1 million inhabitants, is the Kutupalong refugee camp in southern Bangladesh.
